We hear that colocation is dying since everything is going cloud. The fact is there has never been more data center construction than now, precisely due to the growth of cloud services. (All those CPUs that run your Uber app have to reside somewhere.)

The other pieces of the puzzle involve the changing buyers of colocation and the enterprise hybrid network strategy. The buyers of colocation are more often cloud computing companies (SaaS, IaaS, PaaS, storage). Apps like LinkedIn, Uber, iTunes and Snap are housed in data centers globally. Yet here at COLOTRAQ we are still seeing enterprises buying colocation. However, with their hybrid strategy for WAN and infrastructure, the size of the colocation space may be smaller than before.

Enterprises are seeing software move to Microsoft (Office365 and Azure); Amazon AWS, Google, Rackspace and other computing platforms; as well as to SaaS platforms of all kinds (ERP, CRM, EMR, etc).
